Shock at attempted attack on University of Fort Hare VC
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The University of Fort Hare convocation and Universities South Africa have both expressed shock at the attempted attack on the university's vice-chancellor and principle Professor Sakhela Buhlungu.

Buhlungu's bodyguard and driver Mboneli Vesele was gunned down outside the vice-chancellor's home in the Eastern Cape on Friday.
The president of the university's convocation Andile Mini says Vesele's death was unfortunate and unnecessary.
"We feel that it is a cowardice act and something that shouldn't have been done and something that any other human being should not have thought off. He was a hard working man carrying the interests of the university and doing his job delicately."
Meanwhile, Universities South Africa (USAf) CEO Dr. Phathiwe Matutu has condemned the act as it took place on university grounds.
"Universities South Africa, together with its board are deeply shocked and saddened by the act and condemn it, particularly in light of the fact that it happened with a university campus and a stuff member was killed in the process.
"The board sends it support to him (Professor Buhlungu), the university and the family of the deceased staff member. We offer our sincere condolences to the Vesele family."
The motive for the attack is not yet known, but is believed to be linked to Buhlungu's anti-corruption campaign at the historic institution.
