Sisulu: Afriforum must stop exaggerating

Minister of International Relations and Corporation (Dirco), Lindiwe Sisulu, has criticised the Afrikaans lobby group for she says is guilty of the continued spreading of false information abroad about the killing of white South Africans.

Afriforum recently visited several countries, including the US, to raise awareness of what it believes to be the deliberate killing of white South African farmers because of their race.

Phrases including 'white genocide' have been used to describe the spate of farm killings in the country.

"The horror stories that are being put out there about what is going on in South Africa are blatantly false, and the people who are propagating them have no interest in any solution on the issue of land," Sisulu said at a media conference at Parliament on Tuesday.

"We believe in freedom of speech, and therefore they are free to go anywhere and lobby. What we find very offensive is when they exaggerate the situation."

Dirco was recently involved in a diplomatic spat with the Australian government, demanding that its Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton retract comments that white farmers are the victims of genocide.
