Jacaranda FM news reporter, Maryke Vermaak was in the area and reported that there was a police presence while residents were heading to work.
"Learners are also heading to school under the watchful eye of the police," Vermaak reported.
The R59 was opened for traffic while the bridge between Meyerton and the informal settlement was still closed for traffic due to debris and rubble on the road.
"Residents took to the streets due to the lack of service delivery in the area but it has been too dangerous for journalists to engage with members of the community," Vermaak said.
