SIU sets its sights on SABC looters

The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is confident that it will recover cash which was syphoned off from unlawful contracts at the SABC.
The SIU has launched civil proceedings against senior former employees of the public broadcaster who entered into contracts in bad faith.
This after the regulator set aside a contract between the public broadcaster and Lornavision (Pty) Ltd. to the value of R62 million.
The proceedings to recover the monies have been instituted against the company and former acting CEO, James Aguma.
A contract of R52 million, which the embattled state-owned entity entered into with Vision View Production, has also been set aside.
“We are looking at recovering damages from those who were involved in this unlawful, irregular contract. We will follow them until we recover,” says the SIU’s chief governance officer, Mahlodi Muofhe.
The contracts dealt with building new studios for the SABC.
Muofhe says they are working with prosecuting authorities to ensure “those found wanting, should be locked up”.
“Corruption by its nature is a criminal offense we are in the process of referring such matters to the National Prosecuting Authority so that they can be criminally prosecuting as well.”
