According to Tshwane emergency services the saw-dust truck driver fled the scene after the accident but was apprehended on the N1 on Tuesday night.
Six people which includes two children have been killed in the accident after the driver apparently made a U-turn on the N4 highway.
“Tshwane emergency services responded to a motor vehicle on the N4 near Rossouw last night at around 21h00. Fire fighters arrived on scene to find a light motor vehicle that was on a heap of sawdust, with two people trapped inside the vehicle, the driver and a passenger,” says Tshwane emergency service spokesperson Charles Mabaso.
Mabaso says fire fighters freed the two that were trapped although paramedics on scene had already declared them dead.
“Four bodies were lying on the ground declared dead by paramedics and the firefighters freed the bodies that were also declared dead but stuck in the vehicle”
“However, the vehicle that was involved in the accident was not found on scene, it was later reported that it was a truck that apparently made a U-turn on the highway which led to the accident. The truck fled the scene and was apprehended on the N1 near Lynnwood Drive.”
Mabaso adds that road closures were implemented until the earlier hours of Wednesday morning to clear the crime scene.
