Gauteng police have arrested six suspects linked to the murder of two on-duty police officers in separate incidents this past week.
Police launched a manhunt following the death of Sergeant Tumelo Losaba at his home on Sunday.
The attack took place in the early hours of the morning, when the family was ambushed by three men wanting to rob them off their belongings.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Vuyani Ngcobo was killed during an intelligence operation in the De Deur area in Sedibeng on Thursday morning.
"At the time of his death, the 48-year-old member had been serving for twenty years. Ngcobo was attached to the Sedibeng District’s Essential Infrastructure Task Team and was following up on information of drug peddling at a premises in the De Deur area, when he was shot and killed,” says police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
"His suspects evaded arrest at the time of the incident but were within 48 hours traced and apprehended. Two firearms were siezed, one at each disruptive operation. Both firearms will be taken in for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of both crime scenes.”
The four arrested in connection with the murder of Sergeant Losaba will appear before the Garankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The two arrested for the murder of Sergeant Ngcobo will appear before the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
