Six suspected illegal chrome miners nabbed in Limpopo

Police in Limpopo have arrested six suspected illegal miners in the Mecklenburg area outside Burgersfort.
The suspects were arrested after being caught mining chrome in Ga-Phasha on Wednesday.
Police seized generators, wheelbarrows, jackhammers, shovels and a bundle of electric cables at the scene.
Another two suspects were arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes and for being in the country illegally.
"The operation is aimed to put an end to the environmental degradation, safety hazards, and illicit activities associated with illegal mining," said Limpopo police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba
"As a result of this operation, six suspects were apprehended at Village illegally mining chrome, and the used items were confiscated, which will be used as evidence in ongoing investigations.
"The suspects are expected to appear before Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court soon."
