The family of the deceased student at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) said they had been looking forward to his success, to improve their living situation.

Sisonke Mbolekwa, who was a student at the University, was shot on Tuesday, allegedly by a residence manager who opened fire on protesting students at the university’s Mthatha campus.
WSU had initially denied that Mbolekwa was a registered student however, Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane confirmed on Wednesday that he was a student at the university.
Nkabane visited the family of the deceased student on Thursday in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
She said the family had expressed worry over their ability to afford a decent funeral for their son after he was shot during a protest at the university.
The minister said that although the department cannot, at this stage, commit any assistance for the family, they have begun discussions with the university to see how they can help.
“At this point, we do not have commitments to make, but there is going to be a task team working closely with the family and the director general of the department. I have spoken to the DG to speak to the University to see how best we are going to try meet each other halfway to ensure that we give him a befitting funeral,” said Nkabane.
Meanwhile, it's reported that several more students were injured on Thursday after they were allegedly shot with rubber bullets by the security at WSU.
The University has since asked students to vacate the Mthatha Campus by Friday in with the aim of keeping the institution shut until the 5th of May.
