Slight uptick in Covid-19 positivity rate

South Africa’s Covid-19 positivity rate has shown a slight uptick according to statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Friday night.
The number of new Covid-19 cases in the country increased by 2 862, representing an 8.7% positivity rate.
The rate remains stubbornly above the 8% mark, while government has confirmed that the country is now nearing its lockdown.
It has been extended for another month – to 15 March, which brings it 12 days short of the 2-year mark.

The total number of reported Covid-19 cases in the country thus far, is at 3 637 673.
A further 146 Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded, with 8 confirmed over the past two days.
The total number of fatalities in the country now stands at 96 851.
