Soccer boss Danny Jordaan has laid defamation charges against singer and former MP Jennifer Ferguson, who has accused him of rape.
Ferguson initially accused Jordaan on social media, saying she was encouraged to speak out by the #MeToo campaign.
Jordaan has however repeatedly denied the allegations.
"I confirm that my client, Dr Danny Jordaan has opened a criminal case at the Sandton police station," said his attorney Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi.
She was however unwilling to elaborate on the details of the charges.
While the police was unwilling to identify the complainant or the accused, a spokesperson did confirm the charges.
"A case of defamation of character was opened on Friday the 27th," confirmed Mathapelo Peters.
She explains police will now investigate the matter.
Ferguson is not willing to comment on the matter at this stage.
