Social grant payment logistics underway, assures Zulu

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has assured South Africans that plans are underway to ensure social grants are paid on time during the national lockdown.
Older persons, people with disabilities and children will receive their grants earlier than usual next week.
"When we say we have arranged all the logistics, there must be an appreciation that we may find instances where measures we have put in place are not adequate. We are engaging the transport department to look into the times when people can take public transport to go get their social grants," Zulu said at a social cluster press briefing in Pretoria on Saturday.

She said the department is aware that there will be people who may not be able to travel to get their social grants, but mitigation plans are in place.
She urged parents and guardians who will be collecting the child support grant not to take their children along as this may expose them to coronavirus.
All other social grant payments will be made on April 1.
