Sodi, co-accused to return to court on Wednesday in asbestos case

Seven of the accused in the Free State asbestos case are expected back in the Bloemfontein Regional Court on Wednesday.
The suspects are facing charges of fraud, corruption, and money laundering.
The seven accused include business magnate Edwin Sodi, former Mangaung mayor Olly Mlameli and the head of Human Settlements in the Free State Nthimotse Mokhesi.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Sipho Ngwema says additional charges will be added against the accused.
“There were issues around what happened at the police station where Mr Sodi was detained and that the investigating team had to follow up on. Therefore, the prosecutor will therefore give an update in court in terms of further things that would have added with regard to the indictment.”
The NPA previously confirmed that Sodi attempted to bribe officials and bought cell phones while in custody.
“There were further accused that we were expecting would be added to the indictment, so the prosecutor will give an update in terms of what has happened with regard to that investigation in the meantime,” adds Ngwema.
African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule is expected to appear in court on Friday after the Hawks issued a warrant of arrest for him.
