Solly Msimanga to face vote of no confidence
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The African National Congress (ANC) has tabled a motion of no confidence in Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga.
The motion was tabled in council on Wednesday and will be heard on August 30.
"The urgency arises as a result of a special council meeting on 22 August. It is clear from the report presented by the Executive Mayor at the latter special council meeting that he had in fact knew about the alleged irregularities associated with the multi-billion rand ePMU in the office of the city manager.
"The pertinent issue is that from November 2017 to July 2018, the Executive Mayor knew about the corruption scandal and even after supply chain reports were presented to him during that period he did not inform council about the matter.
The Executive Mayor Mr Solly 'I don't know, I am not sure" Msimanga has neglected an important aspect of due skill and care in providing oversight to the executive as expected by Council,” the ANC’s chairperson in Tshwane, Kgosi Maepa, said at a media briefing on Thursday.
The ANC has also pleaded with other political parties to support them in voting the Msimanga out of office.
Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has also tabled its own motion of no confidence against Msimanga.
EFF leader Julius Malema believes that Msimanga has also not been transparent with them, especially with the removal of the city manager Moeketsi Mosola .
"Our caucus has indicated that the city manager is being punished because he is suspected to be the one who exposed the fact that Msimanga hired (former Tshwane chief of staff) Marietha Aucamp, who did not possess the required qualifications for the job," he said.
