Solly Msimanga survives motion of no confidence

Embattled Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga will keep his mayoral chain for another day.

Msimanga will remain as Mayor of Tshwane, after both the EFF and the ANC walked out of council on Thursday afternoon.

A confident Msimanga says he knew from the start that the EFF’s motion would not stand the test of time.

“What I knew is that when I read the motion itself, I could technically see what was wrong with it. Already we knew what was legally wrong with it because we subjected it to our own legal minds and they looked at it and said, this is what it is,” Msimanga told reporters after the failed motion.

The EFF’s motion was earlier disallowed by Speaker Katlego Mathebe due to it not complying with the council rules.

But the EFF has vowed to take the matter to court.

Despite the strained relations between the DA and EFF, Msimanga says they’re still willing to work with the red berets.

‘One thing that I am not going to deny is that we are going to try and reach out to the EFF. We need to work with the EFF. It would be delusional for to think that we can do this without the EFF. We might not be in a solid and formal partnership with them, but they are voting with us on a number of issues.”
