Some areas in Mamelodi without water
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
The City of Tshwane on Thursday confirmed that some areas in Mamelodi, east of the city, are without water.
This comes after the repair work was conducted on a burst pipe, which affected the Mamelodi R3 and R4 reservoirs and the restoration of the water supply.
High-lying areas that are supplied by the Mamelodi R4 reservoir have been struggling to get water for an extended period.
Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says the inflow to the Mamelodi R3 reservoir was shut off, and all flow was directed to the Mamelodi R4 reservoir on Wednesday as part of the city's efforts to aid the recovery of the Mamelodi R4 reservoir.
"The level of the Mamelodi R4 reservoir has risen to 26% overnight due to this intervention. However, the demand on the Mamelodi R3 reservoir during the period without inflow has depleted all the reserves in the reservoir.
"The areas supplied from the Mamelodi R3 reservoir do not have water as a result of this.”
The following areas are affected:
• Franspoort 332-JR
• Gem Valley (all extensions)
• Glenway Estate
• Hartebeestpoort 328-JR
• Hatherley 331-JR
• Leeuwfontein 299-JR
• Leeuwfontein 427-JR
• Mahube Valley (all extensions)
• Mamelodi (all extensions)
• Moretele View
• Nooitgedacht 333-JR
• Pienaarspoort 339-JR
• The Willows 340-JR
Tshwane has arranged water tankers for the affected areas.
Meanwhile, the city will carry out a 9-hour repair work at the Aries Substation in Waterkloof on Tuesday.
The power supply will be shut down during this period for safety purposes.
