Some eThekwini beaches closed due to E-coli detection

The eThekwini Municipality has warned that it has closed some of the city's central and northern beaches with immediate effect, after the presence of E-coli was detected.
In a statement, the city said beaches affected include central beaches and those north of the Umngeni River all the way to Salt Rock.
City spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela says tests were conducted after officials saw murky waters at some beaches, and results showed a positive presence of the bacteria.
Mayisela said this followed signs of beyond-normal E-coli levels in the water.
"Our teams are on the ground working very hard to attend to the malfunctioning of a pump station that is constantly vandalised.
"To a certain extent, it is the reason for this situation. So we are appealing to the public to bear with us.
"Meanwhile beaches that remain open include Pipeline Beach, Amanzimtoti Main Beach, Warner Beach, Winkelspruit Beach, Reunion Beach, and Umgababa Beach."
