‘Some interruptions’ to resumption of Tshwane bus services
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Interruptions plagued the resumption of Tshwane Bus Service and A Re Yeng buses on Monday morning.
The bus services were halted due to the ongoing labour dispute between the city and municipal workers.
Workers downed tools in July in support of their demand to be paid salary increases agreed upon at the SA Local Government Bargaining Council.
MMC for Roads and Transport in Tshwane, Katlego Mathebe, said the city and law enforcement agencies have implemented several measures to ensure the smooth operation of buses.
"To ensure the safety of our commuters, bus drivers and the city’s transport infrastructure, the city alongside the security cluster, which includes support from South African Police Service, Tshwane Metro Police Department, Crime Intelligence, and private security has put up measures to oversee the efficient running of bus operations.”
Speaking to Jacaranda FM News on Monday, the MMC’s spokesperson Kamogelo Mangena confirmed the buses were operating.
However, there had been some interruptions during the course of the morning.
The city is expected to provide more details at a later stage.
