SONA 2017 Preview: Higher Education

South Africa is preparing for the State of the Nation Address that will be delivered in the National Assembly on Thursday.

Last year saw the continuation of the #FeesMustFall protests, with students from various formations and political parties fighting side by side for one common goal: free quality higher education.
South African universities across the country were engulfed by protests. Students also marched on Parliament during the 2016 State of the Nation Address to make their demands clear.
This year, President Jacob Zuma has a tough balancing act ahead of him, trying to help students financially while also keeping the tertiary education sector afloat.
