Residents of Delft, a township on the outskirts of Cape Town, wants President Cyril Ramaphosa to announced measures to deal with the scourge of crime in their community
Deputy Minister in the Presidency Pinky Kekana visited the area on Wednesday ahead of the State of the Nation Adress.
"The president should speak about crime, it's the worst in the Western Cape, the drug use is the worst and the issue of corruption. I know there are processes in place to deal with corruption, we see movement, but we want people to be jailed," said one woman.
She added that the community also wants President Ramaphosa to detail plans for economic recovery.
Her sentiments were echoed by a younger woman, who said the youth in the Western Cape and in Delft are largely unemployed.
"We are not working, our children aren't working, they finish matric and then there are no jobs," she said.
Another man said he is tired of crime but added that the pension fund for the elderly also needs to increase due to inflation.
"A lot of people are home because of unemployment, something must be done, it breeds a lot of crime," said another man
