SOS Coalition: MultiChoice must reconsider decision to boot ANN7

The civil society group Save Our
SABC (SOS) Coalition believes the decision by MultiChoice to cancel news
channel ANN7’s contract will set a bad precedent.
MultiChoice, which owns pay-channel Dstv, announced on Wednesday it won’t be renewing ANN7’s contract when it comes to an end in August.
This follows controversy over the multi-million rand contract it signed with the former Gupta-owned news channel.
MultiChoice is adamant that no corruption took place when the deal was agreed, although it admits that some “mistakes” were made.
The SOS Coalition’s Duduetsang Makuse wants the decision to be revisited.
“Pulling ANN7 off the airwaves will set a very bad precedence for the kind of information and broadcasting environment we are trying to have in the country,” Makuse says. "To simply pull a news channel off the airwaves without concrete reasons will set a very bad precedency for newscasters.”
