South Africa celebrates 24 years of democracy

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to lead the national Freedom Day celebrations at the Dr. Rantli Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein on Friday.
27 April 1994 marks the first democratic election in South Africa.

Chronicled, apartheid and colonialism plagued the country since 1652, but Freedom Day is a symbol of liberation.
Ramaphosa will be honouring the nation's founding father and former president, Nelson Mandela, and his role in the attainment of freedom.
African National Congress (ANC) veteran and freedom icon, Albertina Sisulu, will also be celebrated.
