Cape Town-based studio Triggerfish has scooped an Academy Award nomination for the animation film Revolting Rhymes.

The film is nominated in the category Best Animated Short Film.
Head of production at Triggerfish Mike Buckland says they are ecstatic at the nomination.
"It's really an incredible moment for us to be involved with a film that's getting this kind of recognition. This is one more validation for the quality of animation produced in South Africa. It also shows animators that they can stand shoulder to shoulder with international films. People are now aware of the skills and ability the South African animation industry is capable of. South African animation has matured."
Triggerfish is based at Bergvliet in Cape Town and worked on the project with international producers Magic Light Pictures.

The film is based on a Roald Dahl book of the same name.
It has already won numerous awards including a Cristal award at the animation industry's flagship awards in France.
Buckland says this nomination will hopefully attract more production companies to South African shores and inspire the local industry to produce more work worthy of Oscar consideration.
