The Department of International
Relations has pleaded with South Africans who are travelling to the Middle East
to inform the government.
This comes amid rising tensions after Iran launched revenge attacks on US forces in Iraq - making good on its pledge to hit back over the killing of its top general.
Iranian general Qasem Soleimani was killed in a US strike in Baghdad, with Iran vowing to hit US interests in revenge attacks.
The Pentagon says it's still working on initial battle damage assessments after bases - which house US and coalition forces - were targeted by more than a dozen ballistic missiles.
The department’s Lunga Nqengelele says the safety of South Africans is paramount.
"Our intention is to know the South Africans that are abroad as well that we are able to account for them.”
