Soweto boy drowns in manhole

Johannesburg Water has confirmed the death of a young boy who drowned after falling into a manhole in Soweto.

Ten-year-old Tshepo Moloi died on Sunday.
Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said Moloi fell into the entity's manhole at a contractor site in Mofolo.
"Johannesburg Water offers its deepest condolences to the Moloi family on the untimely passing of their loved one. There is a pool of ground water at the shaft where the child drowned."
"A case has since been opened at the Moroka police station.
"The incident was reported to the Department of Employment and Labour, which will conduct an independent investigation.
"An internal Johannesburg Water investigation is also currently underway to establish what led to this tragedy. The entity will fully cooperate with relevant authorities," she added.
