The Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto has sentenced scholar transport driver Retshidisitsoe Moletsane to life in jail on Tuesday for raping a 16-year-old in 2022.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority in Gauteng, Phindi Mjonondwane, said Moletsane raped the victim on three separate occasions.
“On the day of the incident, the victim finished writing her exam and went to wait for the other children in the taxi, as she had finished writing her exam earlier. He threatened that if she didn’t cooperate, he will call other drivers to come and also rape her,
“On another occasion, the same month, the accused took the victim from school and instead of dropping her off at home, he went to his friend’s place,” said Mjonondwane, adding that he raped her twice on the same say.
Mjonondwane said the mother of the victim noticed changes in her behaviour, including being suicidal.
“At some stage, she even collapsed at school, and eventually she related the incident to her mother.”
Moletsane was added to the National Register for Sexual Offences and was also declared unsuitable to work with children.
