Special needs learners a priority for GDE
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says pupils with disabilities also deserve to be employed and earn decent wages.
Lesufi addressed over 900 delegates, including educators and therapists at the annual inclusion focus week in Turffontein.
The four day conference will tackle educational needs for special needs learners.
Lesufi says the department is working hard to integrate the disability sector within the department.
So far 18 township schools have been built to cater for disabled learners.
"Regardless of their disability, they must not be positioned to be car washers, but rather positioned to fix cars if they are broken," Lesufi says.
Lesufi also mentioned some of the proposals being made at the ANC's policy conference in Nasrec.
