Staffer hurt in student protest
Updated | By Staff Writer

A group of students entered the university's Steve Biko campus and protested outside the office of vice chancellor Ahmed Bawa.
After negotiations with police, the estimated 300 students left the campus and assembled on a nearby road. It was during this time that the injured staff member was found lying in a parking lot on the campus.
Students demanded to be re-registered even though their fees had not been paid. The Students Representative Council's main demand was that students whose fees had not been paid by the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) be allowed to re-register despite the non-payment.
However, the university has claimed that they have no control over NSFAS. On Tuesday, Bawa suspended lectures until further notice.
