Stalwarts disappointed in ANC NEC

ANC stalwarts and veterans say they are concerned that a significant number of the ruling party decided that the recall of President Jacob Zuma should not be accepted.

In a statement, the stalwarts say it is believed the name of the ANC has again been tarnished in the eyes of the communities that they are committed to serve.

"There is little doubt that the most vociferous support for the president would naturally have come from those most directly involved in the project of state capture and the associated web of factionalism and corruption," say the stalwarts.

"This group has yet again shown they clearly place their own narrow political and financial self-interests above those of the future of the ANC and to the detriment of the best interests of the country."

The stalwarts' statement follows the announcement by Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane that he intends laying criminal charges against President Zuma and his cabinet.

The stalwarts say they are acutely aware that it is not in the interests of the opposition parties to be successful in the upcoming vote of no confidence in President Zuma.

"They understand that the continuation of the present Presidency and those members of the cabinet who are blatantly unprepared, unable and unwilling to carry out their mandate preferring the route of the project of state capture based on self-interest, are perversely assets in the preparation of the opposition for the 2019 election," say the stalwarts.

They say opposition parties would withdraw the motion if they truly held the interests of the county at heart.

"They should allow members of the ANC caucus to uphold the constitution of the country and show the necessary leadership that the country expects by formally moving a motion of no confidence themselves."
