Standard Bank says EFF documents 'not doctored'
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Standard Bank has confirmed that the proof of payment received by lobby group AfriForum from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) was authentic.

"Standard Bank denies having confirmed that any proofs of payment in relation to transactions were doctored."
Standard Bank issued a statement after the EFF made a payment to the value of R316 000 to AfriForum earlier this week, stemming from a cost order.
However, AfriForum maintained there were many dubious details on the document and questioned its validity.
The lobby group also said it instructed its private prosecution team to investigate possible criminal offences such as forgery and uttering, as well as fraud.
In its statement, Standard Bank has made it clear the document sent by the EFF were genuine.
"Standard Bank confirms that the documentation circulating in the media, whilst on an outdated template, reflects genuine transactions which are not fraudulent," reads the statement.
"We are investigating the inaccurate communication and will be engaging AfriFforum to gain clarity on the circumstances that led to the error."
The bank further added that it will not be commenting further on the issue.
"We take this matter very seriously and apologise to the EFF.
"Safe for confirming that all the transactions queried by AfriForum with Standard Bank are genuine, Standard Bank is not in a position to comment any further due to client confidentiality."
