Standard Chartered appoints Maria Ramos as new chair
Updated | By Bulletin
United Kingdom banking giant Standard Chartered has appointed South African banking veteran Maria Ramos as its new chairperson.

She succeeds Jose Vinals.
Ramos, who joined the bank’s board as an independent non-executive director in 2021, will assume the role after the annual meeting on 8 May, pending regulatory approval.
She previously served as Absa CEO and as director-general at the Ministry of Finance under the late former president Nelson Mandela.
Ramos will relocate to London and step down from her board role at Richemont.
According to the Financial Times, Ramos is likely to oversee the search for a new chief executive as Bill Winters nears a decade in the post, making him the longest-serving CEO of a major UK bank.
