State wants Flabba murder accused’s version of events rejected

State Prosecutor Paul Schutter told the High Court sitting at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday that the version of Sindisiwe Manqele, who is accused of murdering of the Hip Hop artist Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi, should be rejected.

“It is common cause that Manqele killed Habedi with a steak knife,” Schutter said.

Habedi died at the age of 38 after he was stabbed to death at his family home in Alexandra in the early hours on 9 March, earlier this year. He rose to fame as part of award-winnning rap group Skwatta Kamp, founded in 1996.

Schutter said that Manqele was contradicting herself with regard to what actually happened on the night when she stabbed Habedi.

“She said she was grabbed and in that process she hit one of the walls. If she was indeed grabbed from behind she would be facing the door with her back and Habedi would be facing the door, but she was unable to explain it. That couldn’t have happened,” said Schutter.

He had earlier given a background account of the relationship between Habedi and Manqele.

Schutter said: “She invested lots of time in the relationship and was very sad when she found out that he was probably having sex with other woman without protection and she was scared that she could’ve gotten HIV and she was going for tests and stated that he better pray that he didn’t make her sick.”

Schutter said that Habedi’s cousin Luyanda heard the door opening and later closing, which is when Manqele could’ve gone to the kitchen to put away her Mac Donalds and gotten the knife which she used to kill Habedi. - ANA
