Stats SA urges South Africa to trust census process
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Statistics SA (Stats SA) has urged South Africans to open their doors to volunteers, as they gather information for Census 2022.
The once in a decade census kicked off on Wednesday night and will last through out the month of February.
"On our side what is more important is that we are requesting that when our field workers come to your home, please open your doors to them and be open about the questionnaire they'll be asking you," says Deputy Minister Thembi Rhulani Siweya.

She attended the official launch of the census at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.
Siweya has further assured South Africans that their information will solely be used for Stats SA purposes.
"We are also requesting that you must have confidence that the data that they'll collect, by act by law we won't be sharing with anybody else. There are concerns that I will be giving out information and what happens if you use it against me. The data is going to remain with Stats SA."
