Former president Nelson Mandela remains in serious condition in a Pretoria hospital.

Mandela spent his second day in a Pretoria hospital on Sunday, with no official word from the Presidency as to Madiba's condition.

Mandela was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning after experiencing difficulty breathing

Although said to have been in a very serious condition at first, Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj later told South Africans that Mandela was serious but stable with doctors working to ensure he remains comfortable.

Mandela's wife Graca Machel cancelled a trip to London where she was expected to address a world hunger seminar held by Bill and Melinda Gates.

Machel has since been by Mandela's bedside not leaving the hospital over the weekend.

Through Sunday, teams of doctors and specialists were seen entering the hospital as well as family of the former president entering and exiting escorted by VIP guards amidst the world media glare.

Teams of journalists from radio and TV stations across the globe have been camping out non-stop in front of the hospital as well as in the street of Madiba's Houghton house in Johannesburg.

It is the fourth time this year that Mandela has been rushed to hospital, forcing South Africans to take a collective breath with various prayer services held across the country since the news broke on Saturday morning.

By late Sunday afternoon, rumours continued on social networks and overseas news bulletins as to the actual condition of Madiba with the Presidency not releasing the promised press statement.
