Updated | By Suné du Toit
All Pikitup workers who failed to return to work by midday on Thursday will be dismissed.
This according to MMC for Environment and Infrastructural Services Matshidiso Mfikoe who briefed the media on the ongoing strike at the Johannesburg waste agency.
Workers downed tools again on Wednesday, claiming the company did not honour and agreement on salaries in December.
Striking workers belonging to the municipal workers' union Samwu were demanding salaries ranging from R9000 to R10 000 per month.
Mfikoe said they were waiting to hear if anyone reported for work.
"Our critical responsibility is to ensure that the city is clean and we are protecting residents from diseases," Mfikoe said.
The Johannesburg CBD to a standstill on Wednesday after striking workers took to the streets of Braamfontein.
