Students at the University of the Western Cape have barricaded entrances to the Belville campus in a call for management to address their issues.

Students at the University of the Western Cape have barricaded entrances to the Belville campus in a call for management to address their issues.
The protest relates to claims of a lack of accommodation and residential crisis.
University spokesperson Gasant Abarder says management will address the crowd in due course.
"The service provider is busy negotiating with with a different institution, so that's where the impasse has stemmed from.
"The university doesn't want to get into a situation where the private service accommodation provider wants to play off our university against the other institution."

Abarder assured students that there were no disruptions to classes.
"The student community has been advised that classes are resuming as per normal while the university management tries to resolve the issue with the private accommodation owners," says Abarder.
