Students demand that Zuma return to Higher Education imbizo

Student representatives on Monday demanded that President Jacob Zuma return to the Higher Education imbizo.

President Zuma address the multi-stakeholder forum consultative meeting at Emperor's Palace this morning after which he departed.
Various stakeholders, including parents, business labour and students, are attending the imbizo to chart the way forward following weeks of protests at institutions of higher learning.
Students demanded that the President return to the venue and listen to their problems.
"We are the one who must go back to our campuses now and say 'oh sorry, the president came to give us a press briefing and he went back to Luthuli House'. That is not what we need to come out of this meeting with and that is why the President must come back to this meeting. Students are tired of protesting," a student representative said.
Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande was there to respond to the students.
"Nobody disagrees about free education for the poor, but we said this process must be given a space and there is a presidential commission. We have an agreement with you which you are violating now and you keep on shifting the goal posts all the time, because you don't want us, at the end of the day, to have a proper conversation," Nzimande said.
