Students protesting at TUT
Updated | By MornéJK
Classes at the Tswhane University of Technology have been suspended after students gathered in front of the gate of the university's Pretoria West campus on Monday.
The latest spate of protests were sparked by the minister of higher education, Blade Nzimande's announcement earlier this month, that individual universities should determine their own tuition rate hikes.
Last night a message was sent to students of TUT to rally behind the cause.
TUT's Willa de Ruyter told Jacaranda FM News earlier that they are meeting with student leaders and that no decision has been taken on the suspension of classes.

"We are monitoring the situation as we speak and we will communicate with students as soon as a decision has been taken," de Ruyter said.
Meanwhile, the police is monitoring the situation at the university.
