Students urged to update NSFAS app to receive allowance - Nzimande
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The Minister of Higher Education Blade Nzimande has urged students to update their National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) user app to receive their allowance.
This follows complaints by students they were not receiving their funding allowance at their learning institutions.
Nzimande briefed the media on the department’s Covid-19 vaccination rollout on Friday.
More than 20 000 students are reported to have not created user profilers on the myNSFAS student portal.
Nzimande said this makes it difficult to allocate funding.
"There are 180 293 students whom NSFAS attempted to pay using the NSFAS wallet system, 6 681 of which could not be paid because of locked accounts and 336 have blocked accounts meaning there was a failed attempt to unlock the accounts.
"I urge students to always ensure that they comply with the NSFAS guidelines and directives to ensure that they receive their allowances on time and without any administrative challenges."
Students residing in campus and off-campus residence are next in line to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
