Substation blaze causes massive blackout in Soweto

A massive power outage in Soweto has left thousands of residents without electricity.

Spokesperson for Eskom in Gauteng Reneiloe Semenya says one of the power utility’s substations caught fire on Sunday evening – plunging the area into darkness.

“We are attending to an outage affecting parts of Chiawelo, CWJ, Dlamini, Jabavu, Mofolo, Molapo, Moroka, Phiri, Pimville, Senaoane & White City following a fire incident at the substation last night.
“There is currently no estimated time of restoration, but technicians are on scene working on the outage.”
