Substation explosion lands City Power technician in hospital

A City Power technician has been injured in an explosion at the Crown substation, south of Johannesburg.
The technician and his team were dispatched to repair the substation on Wednesday morning when the blast occurred.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the crew experienced a "flash over from the busbar area”.
"The technician was rushed to the hospital where he is receiving treatment. The cause of the incident is being investigated."

The blast has also left several suburbs in the area without power.
This includes Ormonde View, Booysens Reserve, Therta and Soccer City.
"The team is currently on site busy with repairs. Unfortunately no ETR has been given, but we are hoping to finish with the repairs by early evening," adds Mangena.
