Substation fire leaves parts of Joburg in the dark

City Power said technicians were on site and working around the clock with electricity supply expected to be restored by 9.00pm.

City Power spokesperson Yumna Sheik said the Florida Glen Substation in Florida sustained extensive damage following a fire on Tuesday evening.

"The fire was extinguished around 10.00pm and the site was declared safe for our teams to go in and start assessing the damages," she said.

The areas affected include:

·         Florida Glen

·         Whiteridge

·         Bergbron
