Summit to safeguard North West schools

The North West Education Department is planning a safety school summit to address safety measures at schools.

his comes after a 13-year-old pupil was stabbed to death by a classmate, who allegedly used a pair of scissors.
It's believed that the two boys asked their teacher to use the bathroom and moments later there was an altercation outside the class.
The 13-year-old is a grade 5 pupil from Mateane Primary School in Delareyville outside of Vryburg.
North West education spokesperson, Freddy Sepeng, says the department visited the school on Wednesday to offer counselling to the affected learners and teachers.

Sepeng says the safety summit is planned for the beginning of March.
"Our department, together with social development, are working together and yesterday (Wednesday) we had already started with counselling in the school. We are counselling learners together with teachers because remember teachers are also affected."
"From the 8th and the 9th of next month (March) what will be happening is that we are going to have a safety summit with all relevant stakeholders to try and root out the problem," said Sepeng.
