Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Police Minister Bheki Cele has confirmed the arrests of one suspect in connection with the murder of actor Sibusiso Khwinana.
Cele made the announcement at the ‘Matwetwe’ star's funeral in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, on Saturday.
The 25-year-old was stabbed outside the Sterland cinema in Pretoria during what is believed to have been a cell phone robbery.
The incident happened after a screening of the movie in which he played the lead role.
He was attacked while waiting for an Uber with ‘Matwetwe’ co-star Tebatso Mashishi.
Cele told mourners that the police are still searching for two more suspects.
"We have arrested one, we are chasing two... he's appearing in court on Monday."
Cele believes the new approach to law enforcement under President Cyril Ramaphosa will soon start bearing fruit.
"We hope with the new approach as the president has instructed.. your prosecution, your police, your elite police and everybody to work together, we hope the results will be better and will be able to clean up South Africa. Abantu must be able to live peacefully without fear of the criminality."
