Support victims of crime: Mokonyane

"In this instance, we must never forget someone got killed, as to whether that person was killed intentionally or not, fact is Reeva is dead, she got shot," she told reporters at the High Court in Pretoria.

 

"As the African National Congress Women's League we will forever be on the side of the victims."

 

Dressed in black, Mokonyane wore a sticker with the face of Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead by paralympian Oscar Pistorius in his Pretoria home last year.

 

Pistorius's murder trial entered its third day in the city's high court on Wednesday.

 

She said the stickers were organised together with the Steenkamp family and the African National Congress Youth League.

 

She said Steenkamp was killed in an environment where she was supposed to feel safe.

 

"We must support her family. Her death is a pain to every South African woman...we feel the same as every woman feels. I am a mother too, their child got killed."

 

Women were tired of being observers.

 

"Women are tired of being observers and want to be part of finding a solution. Ours sitting in court has shown us how sometimes those who want to contribute towards fairness can be made to look very incoherent and thrown away from what is at stake here."
