Supra Mahumapelo suspended from ANC for 5 years

Former North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has been suspended from the African National Congress (ANC) for a period of 5 years.

The party’s Provincial Disciplinary Committee (PDC) found Mahumapelo and acting provincial ANC Women’s League secretary Bitsa Lekonpane guilty of misconduct.
The pair faced a disciplinary committee this week after they allegedly advised a local mayor to defy the party's instruction to resign.
They are also accused of running parallel events during the campaigns for by-elections in some of the municipalities.
“After considering the charges and evidence, the PDC found the following verdict that both the above-mentioned respondents have been found guilty as charged,” said Wendy Matsemela, chairperson of the Disciplinary Committee.
“Both respondents must be removed from lists of public representatives of the ANC.”
Mahumapelo’s sanction also includes a 3-year programme on political leadership under the guidance of former president Thabo Mbeki.
The pair have 21 days to appeal the judgment.
