Suspect arrested for murder of Normandien couple
Updated | By ECR
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Normandien farmers Glen and Vida Rafferty.
The 29-year-old man was nabbed at Osizweni Township in Newcastle on Sunday.
The breakthrough came hours after a visit by KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala to the Normandien community.
The Raffertys, both in their 60s, were ambushed, robbed and killed on their farm last month.
Provincial police spokesperson Jay Naicker says they are hoping to make more arrests.
"The suspect was arrested by detectives from the provincial organised crime unit in Osizweni. He was then taken to the magistrate where a confession was recorded. He was charged with two counts of murder and will appear in court on Monday.
“The investigation is ongoing. More arrests can be expected.”
