A 26-year-old suspect is set to appear in court on Monday after 11 tourists were robbed of their belongings on Khayelitsha on Friday afternoon.

The tourists were allegedly robbed at gunpoint while visiting a gardening project at a local school.
The victims were forced into a vehicle then stripped of their belongings by a gang of armed suspects.
Western Cape police spokesperson Novela Potelwa says detectives also questioned two other suspects, aged 20 and 24, in connection with the robbery.
“The arrested suspect is expected in court on Monday, 13 January on a robbery charge. As the investigation unfolds the possibility of more arrests cannot be ruled out.”

Meanwhile, Cape Town Tourism’s Briony Brookes says the safety of tourists remains a concern.
“We have activated our Band-Aid programme which forms part of Cape Town Tourism's year-round safety and security initiatives.
“With assistance from our partners in the tourism industry, the affected visitors will be receiving the remedial support they need following what surely must have been a very traumatic experience.”
