Suspect arrested for Rea Vaya bus drivers' murder

A suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of two Rea Vaya bus drivers in Soweto on Tuesday.

Last month, two bus drivers were shot and killed at Protea and Mapetla.
In the first incident, the driver had stopped at a traffic light on Wildchestnut Street in Protea when he was shot and killed by unknown assailants.
In the second incident in Mapetla, the driver was shot and killed before dropping off the last passenger.
The driver was declared dead at the scene, while the passenger managed to escape unharmed.
The motive for both shootings remains unknown.

“The police received a tip-off, and the suspect's vehicle, which is believed to have been used during the crime, was circulated, leading to the suspect's arrest in Linden,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.
The suspect appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Thursday.
