Suspected social grant loan sharks arrested
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Several suspects have been arrested after being found in possession of thousands of Sassa cards.
Eleven suspected loan sharks, including three Chinese nationals, were arrested in Nigel this morning.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says some of the suspects were nabbed while withdrawing money at an ATM, allegedly on behalf of the Sassa cardholders.
An undisclosed amount of money, four firearms and four cars were seized.
Police say they are investigating the possibility of the suspects working as a syndicate.
Makhubele says more arrests can be expected.
