Suspects attempt to rob jewellery store

Police in the Western Cape on Tuesday arrested three suspected armed robbers shortly after a jewellery store in Caledon was robbed.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that at about 10:35, Grabouw SAPS members responded to information about a maroon Jeep with three suspects that were allegedly involved in an armed robbery at a jewellery store in Caledon.
“It is reported that an unidentified armed male entered the jewellery shop at about 10:10 and threatened the two shop assistants, another suspect entered and he had bags and cable ties. The alarm was activated and the suspects fled the scene. Police were notified of the incident and a general announcement was disseminated to all police stations in surrounding areas,” Van Wyk said.
“Due to the vigilance of Grabouw SAPS members the vehicle was spotted and pulled over on the N2 outside Grabouw. Three suspects fitting the description as provided, aged between 26 and 31 were found inside the vehicle. They were armed with two 9mm pistols and one .38 Revolver, 16x 9mm rounds and six .38 special rounds of ammunition were confiscated. Serial numbers of all three firearms were filed off.”
The perpetrators will appear in the Caledon Magistrates Court soon.
